Sonic Radio Station

May 30, 2012 in Site News by Shadow Remix

I think it’s finally about time that something good comes out of a post from me once in a blue moon.

Recently, thanks to Foreversonic and Gavvie, RadioSEGA managed to help us out in finally getting not only our local (Yes… no more live 365. This means decent quality, real live shows folks!) Sonic Radio broadcasting equipment hashed out, but our Sonic Radio portable equipment as well!

Yep! You guessed it! Sonic Radio will have the ability to go mobile here soon enough!

There are still a few items that need to be taken care of on our end to make sure a smooth transition is made from our current provider, Live365, to our own broadcast here in the studio. We’ll keep you up to date on what’s going on with this. Who knows… maybe we’ll actually have the first ever Sonic Fan Music Festival as our first broadcast on the new setup. Now wouldn’t that be something?

Second Wave of SOS Tickets Grabbed in 48 Seconds

May 25, 2012 in Blog by Sonic Remix

What might as well be considered a de facto Millionaire Fastest Finger competition happened today within community confines.  The prize wasn’t a million bucks, however; it was a coveted pass to this year’s Summer of Sonic convention in the UK.

Organizers confirm the 200 tickets up for grabs were gone in 48 seconds.  That’s despite a two ticket per order limit imposed on this round.

“Incredibly sorry to those who weren’t fast enough to obtain a ticket this time around,” SOS admins Tweetedafter the tickets were gone.  “But, nobody could have expected this year’s event to be THIS popular! You guys are ALL truly amazing Sonic fans!  We are all as astonished as you guys – you all want to come and we simply don’t have room! It’s not that we don’t love you all equally!”

A third wave of tickets has been announced, however details on when those tickets will be available still have not been disclosed.  We will pass along those details when they are made available.

Takashi Iizuka Returning to 2012 Summer of Sonic, Sonic Boom

May 24, 2012 in Blog by Sonic Remix

Minutes ago, organizers of the 2012 Summer of Sonic fan convention in the UK announced Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka will make a return appearance to the show.

“Fans will be able to meet with Iizuka-san on the day, and be able to watch a Q&A on stage where he will answer a selection of questions,” read the announcement.  “More details on the Q&A – as well as how you can get your question answered – will be announced shortly.”

As that announcement was made, the Sega blog was updated with news that Mr. Iizuka will also be attending this year’s Sonic Boom gathering in San Diego.  There, he will be among the judges for this year’s cosplay contest.

Jonathan Charles will be going to Summer of Sonic for us, while Shayne Edwards will cover Sonic Boom.  Look for coverage from both as the shows debut in July.  We will continue to cover announcements leading up to both shows.

200 More SOS Tickets to Release Friday

May 21, 2012 in Blog by Sonic Remix

If you didn’t have the fastest fingers to get the first wave of Summer of Sonic tickets earlier this month, better start practicing for Friday now.
The second wave of SOS tickets will be released then, read an announcement released over the weekend on the official website. This time, with only 200 tickets up for grabs, there will be one major difference.
” Groups will be allowed to register once again in this wave, but due to the overwhelming demand from Wave 1 we will be limiting Group applications to two people per ticket, instead of four,” read the announcement.
The tickets will be released at 6PM UK time, which is 1PM on the US east coast, and 10AM in the West. Given how 400 tickets went in less than three minuteslast time, this could be a window of literally seconds, so if you’re not super quick here, not to worry–SOS organizers also announced a third wave of tickets to be released at a later date.

Sonic Boom Cosplay Contest Announced

May 17, 2012 in Blog, Events by Sonic Remix

Today, the Sega blog announced a costume contest for this July’s Sonic Boom event in San Diego.

“We’re looking for your best Sonic or SEGA-inspired costume, so come dressed to impress!” read the announcement.  “Anyone at Sonic Boom can enter the contest, and a winner will be chosen by our special SEGA guests, including Jun Senoue from Crush 40, and Steve Lycett (S0L) from Sumo Digital.”

No prizes were announced for the contest winners in today’s announcement.  It’s unclear whether something similar will occur for the UK’s Summer of Sonic expo, which will take place a week before Boom.  We should note that while one wave SOS tickets were gone in minutes–something we fully expect for the second wave once released–$20 tickets for Sonic Boom remain available.

Other Upcoming Shows

May 14, 2012 in Blog, Events, Site News by Sonic Remix

So while the Sonic Fan Music Festival is the big announcement, we do have two other shows planned:

Sonic Boom Live – This is a live stream of the event being held on July 13th in San Diego, CA. We’ll be starting the stream at 4 PM PDT and HOPEFULLY make it last till 10 PM (PDT). There will be the heavy possibility of technical difficulties during the show, such as our signal going out inside the building, or battery life dying. If either is the case, we will be providing a backup recorded video by about Sunday, July 15th.

We’re hoping to get interviews from noted fans of the community.

Sonic Boom Live will be airing on Sonic Radio’s uStream channel: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/sonicremix and coverage will be through TSSZ News and Sonic Radio’s Twitter

The Sonic Boom|San Diego Comic Con Post Report Show – July 15th, at 12 PM PDT on Sonic Radio. We will be running a report of the sights and sounds of Sonic Boom and Comic Con.

Sonic Fan Music Festival

May 14, 2012 in Blog, Events, Site News by Sonic Remix

So, June 23rd is going to be upon us before we know it. And we’re gonna celebrate Sonic’s 21st birthday, Sonic Radio style! So we’re planning to air the Sonic Fan Music Festival on Saturday, June 23rd from 12 PM – 8 PM PDT (That’s 3 PM to 11 PM EDT or 8 PM – 4 AM GMT).

The Sonic Fan Music Festival will be a marathon of Sonic music that was done by the fans; whether it was inspired by, or remixes of old favorites, we want to celebrate the music that the Sonic series has given us over the last 21 years.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

If you have a favorite fan remix you want heard in the festival, NOMINATE IT. If you are an artist that has remixed a song, SEND IT TO US! We want to collect as much as possible. Don’t wait for someone else to nominate your favorite remix, we want entries!

If you are nominating a song, please provide a link to the song (YouTube links are okay too!)

If you are submitting a song, feel free to send me the MP3 or link me to it.

Send all submissions and nominations to “sonicremix@sonicradio.net” with the Subject: “Sonic Fan Music Festival”

Submission Deadline is June 16th.

Sonic 4 Soundtrack Coming to iTunes

May 14, 2012 in Blog by Sonic Remix

I SERIOUSLY need to be covering more Sonic music news. Okay, here we go, from our affiliates at TSSZ News:

Sega won’t release the Sonic Generations soundtrack for some reason, but it did remind fans on Friday that there are plenty of other Sonic related soundtracks available for purchase on iTunes–including the magnificentSonic Colors OST–with a note that tunes from both Sonic the Hedgehog 4 games are coming soon.

No timetable was given in the Sega blog’s reminder, but notice was given that music from both Episode I and Episode II would make it to the digital marketplace “soon,” in community manager Kellie Parker’s words.  In the meantime, other music is available on iTunes, including four 20th anniversary branded soundtracks and a couple Crush 40 works.  At minimum, it does look like Sega is serious in providing a cheaper alternative to importing for domestic music aficionados.  Still, no price points were given for the upcoming Sonic 4 fare.

First SoS Tickets Gone in 3 Minutes

May 14, 2012 in Blog, Events by Sonic Remix

A half an hour delay did not keep fans away from grabbing the first 400 tickets to this year’s Summer of Sonic on Sunday.  Despite the move away from London south to Brighton, those tickets were taken in a span of less than three minutes.

In comparison, the 700 or so reservations made for last year’s SOS were taken within ten hours.

“We were so surprised we had to spend some time double (and triple) checking the entries to see if they were all legitimate,” read an announcement on the official Summer of Sonic page.  Anything that looks illegitimate should be disqualified and added to the second wave of tickets that will become available next week, said the announcement.

“We’re not letting any spares go to waste!” the announcement continued.

Tickets were originally to be released at 12 noon local time (7AM ET) on Sunday, but some fans said they saw an access page one minute beforehand–and about 30 minutes before tickets actually were made available.  Organizers assured those who saw the page early were not given an unfair advantage to nab tickets.

Early estimates indicate the second ticket wave will contain less than 400 spots.
